Designer
Early in my career I worked as a graphic designer, and design has been integral to my work since.Since 2008, my most recent designs can be seen at 2thinknow from branding & strategy through to print & web.
If you’d like me to consult on branding your innovative project or start-up, go have a look at 2thinknow Innovation Consulting.
Logos.
For 2thinknow I designed the logo. Both version 2009 & the 2006 original below.
Done using Microsoft Visio. Metaphors – turning the corner. Evoking Global. Fresh. Innovative.
This logo was drawn by hand using indian ink & a ruling pen. I wanted something with handdrawn curves, not another illustrator smooth logo.
Also the simple logo, which is so simple it has been copied, was trademarked based on my original design below. I am proud of it’s simplicity & elegance.
More Branding.
I developed the website, blogs, social media, branding, & numerous images, as well as writing a style manual. Take a look at www.2thinknow.com
Numerous other websites & blogs have had my design input over the years, as well as AGM slides & board presentations for many corporations.
Also the earlier simple brand was developed from scratch by my efforts.
2000s – Interface Design.
The primary selling point of simple was that our user interfaces were inutitive. Working closely with users on such a diverse range of projects, allowed them to me how they actually used the system.
Once again, the triumph of actual experience over theory.
98-04 Slides & AGM Presentations.
Preparing AGM slides taught me a great deal about corporate workings.
Also, agency/client feedback on my slide designs for Channel 7 or Nestle helped my designs.
I also built a series of rather neat innovations for exporting slides from Microsoft Databases.
Earlier 90s Examples.
In the early-mid 1990s I worked as a freelance designer & also a printing company employee.
For Coca-Cola, I designed the look & feel of the Original Fruitopia Point-of-Sale display. Also my designs were included in the gravity-feed systems developed for Coca-Cola, as well as numerous of the Santa displays.
For WD & HO Wills and other tobacco companies I worked on gravity feed shelving.
My designs for Arthur Yates huge Point-Of-Sale were implemented, and remain pleasing less for the design, moreso for the technical challenges of tolerances & folding on a large scale, with warping problems.
Paper techniques which my boss Stephen Ramsay passed on his invaluable & superior knowledge of paper cut-out & folding methods, to whom I am indebted.
Numerous other projects came my way for smaller businesses, but I had very little knowledge of the business of design.
However, since that time being able to design & build mock-ups has come in handy on numerous projects including 2thinknow. Also useful, skills in working with ad agencies involved in data projects for simple.
